The electrification of road transport is progressing rapidly. Electric trucks, terminal tractors, service vehicles and light commercial vehicles are increasingly part of the fleets operated by transport companies, logistics providers and businesses with their own workshop facilities. Understanding EV charging cables and the standards that govern them has become an essential part of working professionally in the truck and trailer sector. Dekoff supplies a complete range of electric truck charging cables for professional use, built around the applicable European and international standards.

The central standard within this product range is IEC 62196, the international norm that defines the connectors, plugs and vehicle-side couplings used for charging electric vehicles via alternating current and direct current. Within this framework, the Type 2 system has become the European standard for AC charging. A type 2 charging cable features a 7-pin connector that supports both single-phase and three-phase charging, depending on the available grid connection and the on-board charging capacity of the vehicle. For DC fast charging, the CCS standard is used in the European market. The electric truck charging cable CCS combines the Type 2 connector with two additional DC contacts, making it the preferred solution for heavier vehicles that need to absorb larger amounts of energy in a shorter time, such as electric trucks charged between shifts at a depot or charging plaza.

Alongside IEC 62196, ISO 15118 is also relevant at category level. This standard governs communication between the vehicle and the charging infrastructure, often referred to as Vehicle-to-Grid communication. While this protocol operates at the level of the charging station and the vehicle's onboard network, it is important that the charging cables used are compatible with systems running ISO 15118. This is particularly relevant for smart charging applications and bidirectional charging, both of which are gaining traction in the heavy transport sector.

The EV charging cable range for electric trucks is divided into two main groups based on the type of grid connection. The first group covers single-phase charging cables. These cables use one phase of the AC grid and are suitable for charging stations and network connections operating at 230V. They are particularly well suited to lighter commercial vehicles, service vans and hybrid vehicles in a transport environment. With a Type 2 connection in accordance with IEC 62196-2, they are fully compatible with the majority of European charging infrastructure. Where charging speed is less critical or where available grid capacity is limited, a single-phase charging cable provides a reliable and cost-effective solution.

The second main group consists of three-phase charging cables, which utilise all three phases of the AC grid. At 16A, a three-phase cable delivers a charging capacity of up to 11 kW, while 32A versions reach up to 22 kW. This makes three-phase charging considerably faster and therefore more practical for commercial charging situations where vehicles must be fully charged within a limited time window. In workshops, on business premises and at trailer manufacturers working with electric demonstration vehicles or their own electrically driven equipment, three-phase charging cables are the standard choice. Here too, the Type 2 connector conforming to IEC 62196-2 is the norm on the vehicle side.

In addition to straight cable versions, spiral charging cables are also available. A spiral cable retracts automatically when not fully extended, reducing the risk of damage from being driven over or tripped on. In workshop environments where multiple vehicles are charged side by side, this is a practical advantage worth noting. Spiral cables are available with Type 2 connections and are suitable for single-phase charging applications.

Dekoff supplies EV charging cables exclusively to professional buyers in the truck and trailer electrical sector. Whether it is a trailer manufacturer equipping an electric vehicle demonstration area, a truck workshop needing to charge multiple electric vehicles simultaneously, or a transport company looking for spare charging cables for its own service facility: the range offers a suitable solution for every charging situation, fully compliant with the applicable standards. By choosing cables certified to IEC 62196 and compatible with ISO 15118-managed infrastructure, professional buyers are investing in a future-proof charging solution that keeps pace with the rapidly evolving demands of electric road transport.
