Dust cover
In the truck workshop and trailer manufacturing environment, electrical connections are continuously exposed to dust, dirt, moisture and vibration. When a connector or socket is temporarily out of use, the contact points are vulnerable to contamination that leads over time to corrosion, increased contact resistance and ultimately to faults in the electrical installation. A dust cover is therefore not an optional accessory but a functional component of a well-maintained electrical system.
The applications across the HGV and trailer sector are wide-ranging. A trailer or semi-trailer that is temporarily uncoupled and left standing is exposed to weather conditions, splash water and road dirt from passing vehicles. Without protection, dirt and moisture penetrate the contact openings of 7-pin sockets, 13-pin western connectors or the heavier ISO-1185 (Type-N) and ISO-3731 (Type-S) connectors that are standard in heavy transport. The cover fits closely around the round housing and prevents the contact pins from being attacked by contamination during uncoupled periods. The same applies to sockets conforming to DIN 14690, which are used on specialist vehicles.
Anderson Power connectors in 175 Ampere and 350 Ampere versions are used for heavy-duty power connections on vehicles and equipment with high current demands. The dust cap designed for these connectors is matched to the specific housing dimensions of the relevant ampere range and ensures that the powerful contact surfaces remain free of contamination that would degrade conductivity.
Rema connectors and Rema sockets are also covered by matching dust covers.
