Chassis cable clamps are an essential component in any professional truck workshop and across the trailer and HGV industry. Their function is straightforward but critical: they hold cables, wiring harnesses and individual leads firmly in place along the chassis or bodywork of a vehicle, preventing movement, abrasion and damage caused by vibration, road debris and exposure to the elements.

In the context of trailer and HGV construction, cables travel over considerable distances from front to rear of the vehicle. Lighting circuits, ABS sensor cables, earth return leads, power feeds to refrigeration units and connections to tail lifts all need to be routed cleanly and securely along the underside of the chassis. Chassis cable clamps provide the mounting points that keep these cables at the correct height, grouped together in a tidy harness, and protected from contact with the road surface, spray water and accumulated road salt. Without adequate clamping, cables are exposed to mechanical wear from vibration and can work loose over time, leading to intermittent faults and costly downtime.

The range of chassis cable clamps offered by Dekoff covers three sizes, each suited to a specific range of cable diameters and bundle sizes. The smallest size, with an internal dimension of 28x15 mm, is used for single cables, thin sensor leads or individual conductors that need to be routed separately from the main harness. This size is commonly used in truck workshop applications where a single cable needs to be anchored neatly to a frame member or bracket, and in trailer applications where space is limited around axles, suspension components or coupling areas.

The mid-size clamp, with an internal dimension of 43x22 mm, covers the widest range of typical applications in trailer and HGV wiring. A standard lighting and signalling harness on a semi-trailer or curtainsider will generally fall within this size range. These clamps are fitted at regular intervals along the full length of the trailer chassis, typically every 300 to 500 mm depending on the installation requirements, to keep the harness firmly supported and correctly positioned. For trailer builders and bodywork specialists, this size is the most frequently used across standard production runs.

The largest size, with an internal dimension of 52x32 mm, accommodates thicker cable bundles or situations where multiple harnesses are grouped together in a single clamp. This applies in trailers with complex electrical installations, such as temperature-controlled trailers carrying multiple power circuits for refrigeration and data monitoring, or heavy-duty flatbed trailers with extensive lighting and auxiliary power requirements. In the truck workshop, this size is used when routing combined harnesses through tight sections of the chassis or when retrofitting significant additional electrical systems to an existing HGV.

All chassis cable clamps are made from durable plastic suitable for the operating conditions typical in truck and trailer environments. They are fixed to the chassis using a single bolt or screw through the central mounting hole, providing a secure and vibration-resistant attachment. Correct size selection is important: a clamp that is too large will allow the cable bundle to move within the clamp, while one that is too small may compress the cable insulation and cause damage over time.

For trailer builders, bodywork manufacturers and truck workshops working at production scale, having the right sizes of chassis cable clamp readily available on the workshop floor is a matter of efficiency. A full-length semi-trailer typically requires dozens of clamps along the chassis run, and having the correct size matched to each section of the installation avoids rework and ensures a professional result. Dekoff supplies chassis cable clamps in all three sizes, suitable for the full range of trailer, HGV and bodywork applications encountered in the professional workshop.
